Hardwood Floor Refinishing in Virginia Beach, VA

Bring worn, scratched, pet-stained or dated hardwood back to life. We sand to fresh wood, repair damaged boards and finish in the stain color you choose.

Hardwood Floor Sanding & Refinishing

Give your hardwood floors a fresh start

Hampton Roads is full of beautiful hardwood hiding in plain sight: 1920s heart pine in Ghent and Olde Towne Portsmouth, narrow-strip oak in post-war Hampton ranches, and solid oak under wall-to-wall carpet in Kempsville and Thalia. Sanding and refinishing removes years of scratches, gray wear and old finish and reveals the wood underneath, usually for far less than new flooring.

Our refinishing jobs start with an inspection. We check board thickness, set protruding nails, repair damaged or missing boards, then sand in stages to fresh wood. You choose your stain, from a light natural look to a rich Provincial or dark Jacobean, and we apply a durable protective finish. We clean as we go and explain dry and cure times before you move furniture back.

Based on our lifestyle (multiple dogs, teenage boys) and usage, he gave us recommendations on what kind of flooring to look for… The work is impeccable, the workers were professional, very nice, and cleaned up after themselves. It has been 7 months since my floors have been installed and they look the same today as they did on the day they were installed.

ANR completed two projects: installed retrofit stair treads for our staircase and wood flooring for the stair landing, and later installed luxury vinyl planks in a new closet. Both projects included the necessary trim work. Jorge takes pride in his work and it shows. He did an exceptional job at a fair price on both projects.

Jorge did a fantastic job on hardwood floors that appeared to be impossibly stained. This house had been a pet friendly rental for the last 19 years. These floors now look brand new!! Great attention to detail, professional, great price. Highly recommend!

FAQ

Hardwood Floor Sanding & Refinishing FAQ

Answers to common questions from Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads homeowners.

How much does hardwood floor refinishing cost in Virginia Beach?

Pricing depends on square footage, the floor's condition, any board repairs, your stain choice and the finish. We give a free on-site estimate with a clear price before any work begins.

Can heart pine and old pine floors be refinished?

Yes, and they look amazing. Many historic homes in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Hampton have original pine floors. Pine is softer than oak, so we adjust our sanding approach. One customer's 93-year-old red pine floors came out “gorgeous” in Duraseal Provincial.

Can engineered hardwood be refinished?

Sometimes. It depends on how thick the real-wood wear layer is. We will check before recommending sanding. If it is too thin, a screen-and-recoat or replacement may be the better option.

How long does refinishing take, and do I need to leave home?

Most projects take three to five days including dry time, depending on size and finish. You can usually stay home if you can avoid the rooms being worked on. We will walk you through the schedule, foot-traffic times and when rugs and furniture can return.

Can I change my floor color?

Yes. Once the old finish is sanded off, you can choose a new stain. We apply samples on your actual floor so you can see how the color reads on your wood species and in your light.

Can sanding remove pet stains?

Surface stains often sand out. Deep urine stains that have soaked into the wood may need those boards replaced, which we can do and blend in during the refinish.
